PUTRAJAYA, April 10 (Bernama) — The quota system will maintained at Umno’s elections in December, said Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. The Prime Minister, who is also Umno president, said Umno’s Supreme Council (MT) had decided that it would be maintained. Umno would have to hold an extraordinary general assembly if it wanted the system changed, he told reporters after chairing a meeting of the National Council on Islamic Religious Affairs, here today. Under the quota system, a presidential aspirant needs at least 30 per cent or 57 of the 191 divisions in the party to nominate him or her. For the deputy president’s post it is 20 per cent (nominations from a minimum of 38 divisions), vice present 10 per cent (19 divisions) and MT member five per cent(10 divisions). — MORE JM JM HA
